The Biltmore’s Haunted History
The Biltmore stands out not only as a remarkable historic hotel, but also as a possibly haunted site. There are several stories floating around about people who died there and whose ghosts now haunt the hotel. Most notable is the story of a mobster named Thomas “Fatty” Walsh, who was murdered on the hotel’s 13th floor in 1929. Now, many stories are out there about strange happenings on the 13th floor, like elevators bringing people there without warning, lights and TVs turning on and off, and doors opening on their own.
Another story is about a woman in white who died there after jumping from a tower window, and who now haunts the halls. Toss in all of the soldiers who surely died there during its many years as a V.A. hospital, and you’ve got a place that’s ripe for ghost stories aplenty. If you do believe in ghosts and haunted places, the Biltmore certainly fits the bill for a spot where such things could happen.
